Red panda are endangered mostly due to commercial logging, deforesting and hunting.
Commercial logging is the process of cutting down trees to be sold as timber or pulp. This is linked to deforesting; clear cutting forests to make room for houses and other commercial buildings. Hunting traps and kills living organisms for many personal reasons. These are the three main factors as to why red pandas have become endangered (Gale Science in Context, 2009).
There is a large demand for wood, encouraging loggers to cut down more forests. Forest are the main habitats where red pandas live and raise they’re cubs. With commercial logging, this leads to habitat loss. Habitat loss means no homes for the species and less food to eat. As for deforestation, this cause effects the red pandas on a long-term scale. This leads to landslides and adds to commercial logging. Plus, it effects inbreeding and loss of genetic variation. As for hunting, its not as popular to hunt red pandas compared to other animals. Red pandas are often getting caught in the traps and snares meant for other animals. However, hunting red pandas is popular in China and Bhutan. Red pandas are killed for their fur; to make hats and pelts (Gale Science in Context, 2009).
